The literacy skills required in a number of jobs have been identified in co-operation with ITOs and employers. These are:

Literacy on the Job describe the main literacy tasks in a job and how frequently they are used.

Literacy Profiles provide much more in-depth descriptions of literacy tasks within a job and the literacy skills needed to complete these tasks. This information may be of use to ITOs, trainers, qualification writers and assessors.

Literacy on the Job and Literacy Profiles are useful for:

• Employers: to identify what skills to look for in employees and what skills to develop in their workforces
• Industry Training Organisations: to identify the key skills that need to be reinforced across their qualifications
• Tutors and trainers: to develop curricula, to help set skill development targets
• Schools: to identify the relationships between skills for work and NCEA units and achievement standards
• Career counsellors: to help clients investigate career options, to see how their skills and what they are learning can be applied in the workplace
• Employees: to see what skills are required in the jobs, to identify the skills they have and ones they might want to further develop
