Vocabulary development is critical to the development of literacy and numeracy skills. This is demonstrated by the fact that vocabulary is one of the progressions in all four literacy strands of the New Zealand Learning Progressions.
We are also fortunate that two eminent academics involved in teaching and researching vocabulary – Paul Nation and Averil Coxhead – are New Zealanders.
