The client

ETITO develops and maintains national qualifications and materials for a number of industries including security staff services and electronic security.

The challenge

In the security industry, ETITO recognised that it needed to provide additional support to its trainees to help them meet the industry's qualification standards.

Training for security guards is carried out by a number of training providers and employers and the training materials and workbooks they produce are different. This means that materials are often in different formats, and may not always address the different levels of literacy amongst the industry's trainees. Security trainees also have the challenge of fitting in their learning and assessment around shift work, and working irregular hours. This makes it even more important for the training material to be presented in a way that is easy to understand.

The solution

ETITO asked Workbase to work with it to develop workbooks that could be used by all security trainees. These needed to be: 

• built around the ETITO's assessment materials
• easy to understand 
• consistent for all organisations. 

Workbase worked collaboratively with ETITO to ensure that the workbooks were exactly what was needed.  Where changes were needed or shifts in emphasis, Workbase responded quickly to put these in place.

ETITO is happy with the result and looking forward to seeing positive results when the workbooks are launched to trainees throughout New Zealand.
